How to Measure Your Windows
Accurate measurements ensure a perfect fit every time. Follow the guide below — or skip it entirely with our free in-home measure.
Inside Mount
- Measure inside the window frame
- Width at top, middle & bottom — use the narrowest
- Height at left, center & right — use the longest
- Don't deduct anything — we make the fit adjustments
- Check depth: blinds need 1.5", shutters need 2.5"
Outside Mount
- Measure outside the frame onto the wall
- Add 2–3 inches on each side for light blockage
- Add 2–3 inches above the frame for height
- Great for maximizing the window's appearance
Pro Tips
- Always use a metal tape measure — fabric tapes stretch
- Measure every window individually, even matching ones
- Record to the nearest 1/8 inch
How to Install Your Window Treatments
Tools: power drill, tape measure, screwdriver, level. Or let us handle it — professional installation is included on every BlindsElite order.
Inside Mount Install
- Hold the headrail in the opening and mark bracket screw holes
- Drill pilot holes; secure brackets, checking level
- Snap the headrail in until it clicks
- Test full raise, lower and tilt
Outside Mount Install
- Mark brackets 2–3" above and beyond the frame
- Find studs or use wall anchors
- Drill pilot holes and secure brackets level
- Click in the headrail and test full motion
Avoid These Mistakes
- Always drill pilot holes — prevents frame cracking
- Always use a level — small tilts are very visible
- Check for pipes and wires before drilling
- Test fully after install
